Soft Annealing

Soft Annealing

Heat treatment process to reduce material hardness and improve machinability

Soft Annealing is applied to relieve internal stress and soften the material structure, allowing easier machining and forming. This process ensures uniform microstructure and prepares materials for subsequent manufacturing or heat treatment stages.

Process Parameters

  • Temperature: 600°C - 750°C (depending on material)
  • Holding Time: 1-4 hours
  • Cooling Rate: Slow cooling in furnace
  • Atmosphere: Protective gas or vacuum

Material Benefits

  • Reduced hardness for easier machining
  • Relieved internal stresses
  • Improved ductility
  • Uniform microstructure
  • Better formability

Applications

  • Preparation for cold working
  • Stress relief after welding
  • Improvement of machinability
  • Preparation for final heat treatment
  • Recovery of mechanical properties

Materials Processed

Carbon steels, alloy steels, tool steels, stainless steels, and non-ferrous alloys.

Quality Control

Each annealing process is monitored with:

  • Temperature control (±5°C)
  • Time monitoring
  • Hardness verification
  • Microstructure analysis
